Militant greetings from United in Struggle.
As a mass organisation of working people, United in Struggle joins exploited and oppressed people everywhere in fighting for liberation from the monopoly ruling class and their weapons industry!
The quest of Canadian monopolies for profit leads them to send arms across the world. Crown Corporation General Dynamics Canada sent 2.2 billion dollars of military equipment to Saudi Arabia for their war on Yemen. Canada has sent more than $28 million in new military exports to Israel since October 7th. And the largest foreign shareholder in Elbits System, an Israeli Defence company, is none other than our very own Scotiabank.
The export of weapons is a symptom of the domination of huge monopoly corporations over our economy. These corporations require new avenues for economic expansion which drives them to expand the so-called ‘defence industry’ to create profits, crush liberation movements, and secure economic and geopolitical interests. This system of monopoly capitalism is called imperialism. Canada constitutes a core part of the Anglo-American Imperialist Alliance, the bloc of imperialist countries led by the United States which dominate the world, sowing conflict and extracting profit. The crisis of imperialism is fundamentally a question of ownership. Who owns the resources of your country, the factories. Who owns the politicians?
Canadian imperialists exploit and oppress workers across the globe and at home in Canada. Under imperialism we work our whole lives only to be exploited by monopoly capitalists and their corporate lackeys, like the ones attending CANSEC. Working people comprise more than 60% of the Canadian population. 1.1 million of those workers need to work multiple jobs in order to stay afloat. 1 in 3 workers in BC don’t earn a living wage. And with average rent increasing 22% in the last 2 years many more face the real possibility of homelessness.
While weapons corporations like Lockheed Martin earned over 6 billion dollars in 2023, we are forced to dedicate a third of our life to companies, being exploited and discarded at a moment’s notice. We remember Yuridia Flores, a worker and mother of 2, killed on the job during a crane accident here in Vancouver, and we remember the 1000 workers that die on the job each year because our government cares more about corporate profits than peoples’ lives.
When we do organise and assert our power as workers, we are met with repression. Right now Amazon, a company notorious for its horrendous working conditions, is attacking the first successful union drive at an Amazon facility in Canada – challenging the fundamental right of workers to organise.
We must understand the same imperialist system causing turmoil across the globe is the same one exploiting us here. The struggle against imperialism is our struggle against the ruling class.
When we’re out organising in the factories and warehouses, in the stores and restaurants, and in working class neighbourhoods we constantly hear people anxious about stagnant wages, rising rents, inflated prices, and terrible working conditions, and while there is a general level of dejection we hear from workers, there is also a growing discontent and desire to organise!.
The best way to express anti-imperialist politics is to organise workers. It’s to strengthen and expand the worker’s movement as the conscious, organised struggle of workers for economic and political power. We need to be deeply implicated in organising the working class against the Canadian ruling class, to struggle for our objective interests as workers.
Whose labour makes this system continue? It is ours, the workers.
Whose labour creates the same wealth used against us? It is ours, the workers.
Whose labour can put an end to this vile system and create a new, better world? It is ours, the workers.
Palestinian Marxist revolutionary Ghassan Kanafani said:
“Imperialism has laid its body over the world, the head in Eastern Asia, the heart in the Middle East, its arteries reaching Africa and Latin America. Wherever you strike it, you damage it, and you serve the World Revolution.”
Let’s do our part in this global struggle and strike imperialism here in the belly of the beast.
Get involved with on the ground organising, join a United in Struggle Assembly, let’s get busy agitating, organising, and mobilising the working class in Canada to exert our power!
Long Live International Solidarity!
